Adam Ondra Show opens the World Cup Kranj 2017

The sport climbing spectacle in Kranj will commence with a lecture by one of the best climbers of all time, who has recently set a new benchmark in sport climbing by completing a route rated at 9c. The Czech Adam Ondra, a three-time world champion and a winner of multiple World Cups, is one of the nicest and most approachable people in elite climbing. You are invited to listen to his stories from the vertical on Thursday, 9 November 2017, at 19:00 at Cineplexx Kranj. The lecture will be in English.

Adam Ondra will present his climbing beginnings and main climbing sites with photos and videos, but he will focus on his most recent high-profile climbing projects: Silence, the world's first 9c-rated route, and Dawn Wall, the second ascent of the toughest multi-pitch route in the world.

The lecture by the Czech master of the verticals, which is organized by the Alpine Association of Slovenia in cooperation with the Czech Mountaineering Association, will celebrate the 120th anniversary of the establishment of the Czech branch of the Slovenian Alpine Association in Prague, so there will be also a short presentation of the Czech-Slovenian cooperation and Czech climbing sites.

Adam began walking and climbing practically at the same time, and among his first climbs, in addition to Czech climbing sites, were also Mišja peč and Osp, which he visited in his childhood. At the age of eight, he had already onsighted a route with a rating of 7b+. At thirteen, he climbed his first route rated at 9a (the route Martin Krpan in Mišja peč), and thus became the youngest earthling who has ever climbed a 9a.

At the age of sixteen, he celebrated the first World Cup victory in lead and became the world vice-champion in lead. Later, he won another three gold medals at world championships. It is a remarkable achievement that he became the overall World Cup winner in both, bouldering and lead, and even more so, that in the same year (2014), he also became the world champion in both categories, while at the next World Cup (2016) he won gold in lead and silver in bouldering.

In 2012, he climbed the first 9b+ rated route in the world (Change), and in September this year in Norway, he set a new milestone in the difficulty of sport climbing with the route Silence, rated at 9c. While this is the only climb in the world with the rating of 9c, three routes are rated at 9b+, two of which are Adam's (Change and Vasil Vasil), and one is Chris Sharma's La Dura Dura, which is the only one with two ascents. It is worth noting that Adam was the first to climb all four the most difficult routes in the world.

To date, the 24-year-old sport climber from Brno has climbed thousands of routes, of which 158 are rated at 9a or higher. He is the only one who has flashed a 9a - twice, and onsighted another four 9a routes. In 2016, it took Ondra only eight days to complete the second ascent of the legendary route Dawn Wall, the most difficult multi-pitch route in the world with two pitches rated at 9a. His achievement is outstanding, since that was his first climb in the El Capitan's wall, and as the best climber in the world, he had chosen the toughest route and confirmed his title in style.

Ondra is also a three-time winner of the World Cup competition in Kranj, which will take place at the Zlato Polje hall on 11 and 12 November.
